Update:

One sci-fi movie has been lurking on our platforms for months and we never noticed. The Gorge was an Apple TV+ hit when it came onto our television screens, but the hype slowly died down as it moved to various other streaming platforms.

However, the popularity surge has happened once again and we can’t take our eyes what some are calling a masterpiece.

Released on Apple TV+ on February 14, 2025, The Gorge is a 2025 sci-fi action-romance directed by Scott Derrickson and written by Zach Dean. Starring Miles Teller as Levi and Anya Taylor-Joy as Drasa, the film follows two elite snipers stationed on opposite towers, guarding a mysterious abyss harbouring an unknown threat. Sigourney Weaver co-stars as Bartholomew, adding depth to the ensemble.

As they confront the dangers within, a bond forms between them, blending elements of romance and suspense. The film features cinematography by Dan Laustsen and a score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

The Gorge received mixed reviews: while some praised the chemistry between the leads and the film’s production quality, others criticised its tonal inconsistencies and narrative execution.

As of now, The Gorge holds a 65% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating a mixed-to-positive reception. Critics generally praised the film’s ambitious blend of sci-fi action and romantic drama, especially the chemistry between leads Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy. The audience score hovers around 70%, suggesting viewers responded more favourably than critics overall.
