Actor Ian Somerhalder, who played Damon Salvatore in “The Vampire Diaries,” retired from show business a few years back. This is what he looks like today.
It’s been 15 years since the premiere of the successful supernatural teen drama series series “The Vampire Diaries,” which starred Ian Somerhalder. The actor has since retired, but his role as a vampire has left its imprint on his fans.
Ian Joseph Somerhalder was born in Covington, Louisiana on December 8, 1978, making him 46 years old this year. He began working as a model at an early age. His work includes brands such as Calvin Klein, Versace, Guess, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci.
Somerhalder later decided to pursue acting, starring in the series “Young Americans” in 2000. A few years later, he landed the role of Boone Carlyle in “Lost.” In 2009, Somerhalder began playing the role of Damon Salvatore in “The Vampire Diaries.”
Aside from acting, Somerhalder also directed some episodes of the series and became a producer.

Somerhalder played Dr. Luther Swann as a series regular in the V-Wars series, which ran from 2019 to 2020. This was his last acting project, according to IMDb.
In a 2024 interview with E! News, Somerhalder and his wife Nikki Reed discussed his retirement from acting, his life on a farm outside of Los Angeles, as well as how he continues to be involved in producing and environmental activism.

“I love what I did for a long time. I love making movies, I did it for so long. We had an amazing run. But this is our version 2.0,” he said.
“When you see how nature works, you find compassion. It’s beautiful to see what’s happening with the kids, to see them participate in growing their food and understanding what food is and where it comes from,” Reed added about their new lifestyle.
