Renowned Hollywood actor admits to taking drugs to cope with a dinner with Trump: “It was brutal”
Woody Harrelson shares the exotic experience he had dining with Donald Trump and his partner Melania more than 20 years ago.

Everyone knows Donald Trump’s public persona — the showmanship, the bravado, the flair for spectacle. What’s far less common is hearing what he’s like behind closed doors, away from the cameras. Woody Harrelson, the acclaimed actor known for True Detective and Zombieland, once got a front‑row seat to Trump’s private side. In an interview, Harrelson recounted a dinner he shared with Trump and Melania back in 2002.
A Dinner Harrelson Will Never Forget
“We all met up and sat down. Melania was there, even though they weren’t married yet. And let me tell you, it was a brutal dinner. Two and a half hours,” Harrelson told Esquire in a 2019 interview. “At a table with four people, everyone should get about 25% of the conversation, right? I’d say Melania got maybe 0.1%. I got about 1%. Trump took the rest.”
This wasn’t just any dinner spot. Trump hosted the gathering at Trump Tower, and joining them was Jesse Ventura, then the governor of Minnesota, who had invited Harrelson to the meeting.

Harrelson’s takeaway: “He blew my mind”
Harrelson didn’t mince words about the impression the conversation left on him. “I’m from Hollywood — I’ve seen a lot of narcissists. But this guy was beyond anything. He blew my mind.” At one point, overwhelmed, Harrelson stepped out onto the terrace, lit a joint, and then returned to endure the rest of the monologue.
Still, one comment from Trump stuck with him. According to Harrelson, Trump said: “I’m worth $4 billion, but when I die, no matter how much it is, I know my kids are going to fight over it.”
