Timothée Chalamet named the face of fragrance Bleu de Chanel
Chalamet replaces French actor Gaspard Ulliel, who was tragically lost in a skiing accident in 2022.
Timothée Chalamet has become the new face of fashion powerhouse Chanel’s new fragrance for men, Bleu de Chanel.
The actor succeeds the long-time face of the perfume, Gaspard Ulliel, who tragically died in a ski accident in January 2022.
Bleu de Chanel and Martin Scorsese
Ulliel was Chanel’s first male muse. The worldwide release of the then new perfume Bleu de Chanel, a short film which was directed by Martin Scorsese, portrayed Ulliel as a tormented filmmaker in the middle of a press conference.
The campaign film changed the way fashion uses television for advertising, and the ‘Saint Laurent’ actor became the symbol of a whole generation.
Thirteen years later, Chanel has selected a new face for the brand. Chalamet, who is 27-years-old, is about the same age as Ulliel was when he took on the role in 2010.
The Oscar-nominated actor will appear in Chanel’s new Bleu de Chanel campaign, which will be reminiscent of Ulliel’s 2020 campaign. Martin Scorsese will direct a short film for Bleu de Chanel in the spring of 2023 in the streets of New York.
Timothée Chalamet on his new campaign
The ‘Call Me By Your Name’ actor says he has reached a point in his career where he can make business decisions based on his passions.
“When you put on Bleu de CHANEL, you’re emphasizing a distinct experience, or maybe a certain look, occasion, or date,” the actor said. “For me, personally, there’s a specific intention behind fragrance.”
“I’m not someone who wears a scent all the time,” Chalamet explained. “When I do, it becomes emblematic of a moment, and later there’s a nostalgia for that moment and it becomes something more meaningful.”
“The decision was not dissimilar to agreeing to do a film. I am lucky to be at a place in my career where I have the opportunity to curate and choose projects that strike my passion,” he revealed.
Chanel releases a statement
Chanel also released a statement about the new partnership.
“With a dynamic energy as raw as it is refined, the 27-year-old actor has gained a distinguished worldwide reputation, while still at the dawn of his career,” Chanel wrote.
“Apart from his audacious style and unapologetic charm, Timothée Chalamet personifies the visionary and edgy spirit of the next chapter of Bleu de Chanel: a man who does not limit himself to the ordinary boundaries life sets and looks beyond what is visible.
“[The campaign] defies the preconceptions of men’s perfumery [and] marks a milestone for Timothée Chalamet as well as the house of Chanel, synchronously ushering in new eras for him as a modern icon and for the legacy of Bleu de Chanel.”
