Timothée Chalamet preparing to sing for upcoming biopic as Bob Dylan
The crew hasn’t started filming yet, but Timothée Chalamet has been preparing.
Timothée Chalamet has been preparing for his role as the legendary Bob Dylan for over three years. His role in the upcoming biopic was announced in 2020, but filming will begin in August 2023.
With such a distinct voice, it’s quite a task to learn the nuances of Bob Dylan’s musical genius. Chalamet has been practicing guitar, piano, and various genres, from Folk, where Dylan found his roots, to Rock.
James Mangold tells all
The year 2023 is shaping up to be a massive year for James Mangold. He’s heading to Cannes next month for the premiere of ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’, and was recently announced as the director of a new ‘Star Wars’ movie.
He’s also planning to work with the James Gunn-led DC Studios on a ‘Swamp Thing’ film. But before he dives back into blockbusters, he’s planning to shoot his long-gestating Bob Dylan film ‘A Complete Unknown’ with Chalamet this summer.
“It’s such an amazing time in American culture and the story of a young, 19-year-old Bob Dylan coming to New York with like two dollars in his pocket and becoming a worldwide sensation within three years — first being embraced into the family of folk music in New York and then, of course, kind of outrunning them at a certain point as his star rises so beyond belief,” Mangold said.
“It’s such an interesting true story and about such an interesting moment in the American scene.”
When asked if Chalamet would be doing the singing as Dylan, Mangold offered a blunt answer: “Of course!”
Chalamet’s previous singing experience
Chalamet has sung for a film production in the past. He previously performed a version of Chet Baker’s Everything Happens to Me in Woody Allen’s ‘A Rainy Day in New York’ (2019), and he shows off his vocals in seven songs for the upcoming ‘Wonka’ prequel.
“I haven’t stopped preparing, which has been one of the greatest gifts for me. It’s been a wonderful experience getting to dive into that world, whether we get to make it or not,” said the star.
