Tyrese opens up about faith and wanting to make Paul Walker’s family proud

Tyrese Gibson has opened up about the significance of his role in the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise since the passing of star Paul Walker and director John Singleton.

The actor revealed that he maintains close contact with the families and wants to “make them proud” while discussing how his faith has got him through hardships.

Tyrese plays the role of Roman, who runs with Dom and the gang, in the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise.’Fast X’ develops a significant subplot around Roman, who helms a job in Rome — which ends up being a trap.

Tyrese talk about missing his friends

Appearing on the Big Boy podcast, Tyrese reflected on what it was like to persevere despite the loss of his friends and colleagues, Paul Walker and John Singleton, who were both part of the ‘Fast’ family.

“The overwhelming feeling like wow, you know, no John Singleton no Paul Walker,” Tyrese lamented. “And I’m still here, and just kind of like not feeling like, man if something gonna happen to me next that’s not the feeling, it’s the pressure.”

The star also shared how he maintains relationships with both the Walker family and the Singletons, whose children play together.

“I gotta make them proud,” Tyrese said. “Right I gotta do whatever it takes to [...] keep the Walkers up.”

All things work together for good

While elaborating on the things in life that he didn’t understand that most people would perceive as a major setback, he attributed his hardships to the plans of God, which work together for good. Tyrese also said that he has been “overwhelmed” by what God has done for him, even though he has repeatedly messed up.

“We should, as believers, we should go the rest of our lives trying to figure out God. That should be an everlasting hunt,” Tyrese said. “That’s been my life. And that’s what keeps me curious about what God has next.

“I’m looking as a person who is overwhelmed with what God has decided to put me in, and has done over my life, even when I’ve went above and beyond to mess it up myself,” he admitted. “God says I still got you.”

“And that’s what allows for me at 44 years old to still feel like I’m a three-year-old who’s experiencing Christmas every single day,” he explained. “The laughter that is still in my soul even though I got every reason in the world to sometimes be depressed and sad and emotionally and psychologically wiped out.”

“God will send you all of the desires of your heart,” Tyrese continued. “And that is something that I want everybody who can hear this interview to know.”
