Watch Ryan Gosling perform “I’m Just Ken” behind the scenes of “Barbie”

Ryan Gosling stole the show in the Barbie movie and especially at the end when he performed the song “I’m Just Ken” with an incredible mix of song and dance with 80s energy and psychedelic vibes. As if Gosling hadn’t already stolen our hearts with that show, a behind-the-scenes video has now been released of the making of the scene.

A cheesy moment turned to an Oscar-winning performance with Gosling at the forefront, and the behind the scenes look at this unforgettable scene shows director Greta Gerwig equally amused and impressed by his dedication to the performance. Not only that, but we get a look at all the work that went into putting this over-the-top dance number together.

Gerwig told the Rolling Stone that she wouldn’t take no for an answer to Gosling being the leader of the Kens and was not the least bit regretful of that choice.

”I don’t know that anyone has ever invested more in making people understand the plight of this man. It was extraordinary,” said Gerwig. “I felt with both of them that I might direct movies for a long time and never see anything that uniquely and gloriously unhinged.”

Getting to witness Gosling and his supporting Ken crew (Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, amongst many others) gave us a chance to see all the work they put into making this scene what it was with choreographers and musicians making it all work. Speaking of musicians, there were several big-named ones in the video, including Slash from Guns N’ Roses jamming on the guitar and The Offspring’s Josh Freese on drums. They fit the scene perfectly.

With all of the work and moving parts that go into making a film great - from the directing to the crew to the actors and post production (all of which are on full display in this video) - it looks like the masterpiece that was the Barbie movie was also just so much fun to create.
