After the critical and commercial success of 2019′s “Joker,” director Todd Phillips returns with “Joker: Folie à Deux,” a sequel that promises to be even more audacious than its predecessor. But this time, there’s a twist: it’s a musical.
The success of the film could depend on Phoenix’s performance. His portrayal of Arthur Fleck in the first film was nothing short of phenomenal, earning him an Academy Award for Best Actor. British actor Steve Coogan is also shown in the trailer in an as-of-yet unnamed role.
The title itself hints at a central theme. “Folie à Deux” is a psychiatric term referring to a delusional disorder shared by two or more people. With Lady Gaga joining the cast as Harley Quinn, the film seems poised to explore a complex and potentially toxic relationship.
“Joker: Folie à Deux” is scheduled to hit theaters on 4 October, 2024.
