What Bruce Willis’ family is doing to help him following dementia diagnosis

Bruce Willis’ family recently announced that the actor has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

Bruce Willis’ family recently announced that the actor has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

Bruce Willis’ family is doing all that they can to keep the actor active after he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

The news came after a previous announcement in 2022 that revealed Willis was suffering from aphasia, a condition that affects language expression and comprehension.

How Willis’ family is helping him

Willis announced his retirement from acting in March 2022 after he was diagnosed with aphasia, with his family providing an update on his health last week, 11 months after they disclosed the diagnosis.

“Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD),” read the statement.

“Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.”

With the family settling into life following the diagnosis, a source says they are doing all that they can to keep Bruce’s mind and body active.

“The focus for Bruce is to keep him active. He has a busy schedule with activities every day. They make sure both his body and brain is exercised,” a family source told People.

“The family is all closer than ever.”

As for Bruce’s wife, Emma Heming Willis, the source adds that she is focused on making things as comfortable as she can for her children - Mabel and Evelyn.

“She wants them to remember Bruce as an amazing, fun dad. She wants them to have the best memories of him,” the source adds.

Other celebrities have expressed support for Willis

Along with his family, Willis has received plenty of well wishes from other celebrities.

Stars including Aaron Paul, Selma Blair, Alyssa Milano, Ireland Baldwin, Paris Hilton and Marlon Wayans all took to social media to send their love to the star and his family.

“Love you so much my friend! Sending hugs to you and that beautiful family of yours. Your pops is such a damn legend,” Paul wrote on Rumer Willis’ social media post in which she announced her father’s diagnosis.

Maria Shriver and journalist Jake Tapper took to Twitter to share their sentiments. Tapper shared that his father-in-law also suffered from from FTD, before he passed away.
