What was Sonya Eddy’s cause of death?

The actress who passed away in December was honored by ‘General Hospital’ costars in latest episode

Sonya Eddy’s passing was honored today by costars on ‘General Hospital’ after her sudden death in early December of last year.

The actress played Nurse Epiphany Johnson, on the ABC Soap Opera. She made her debut on the show in 2006, starring as a nurse and mother to Stan Johnson, played by Kiko Ellsworth.

She played her character for 543 episodes. Not only that, but she also had guest roles on TV Shows such as ‘Glee,’ ‘Malcolm in The Middle,’ and ‘Seinfeld.’

What caused Sonya Eddy’s Death

The actress passed away on December 19, 2022, at 55 years old. Eddy went in for an undisclosed non-emergency procedure at the hospital earlier on December 9 and was later released on December 11.

However, the soap star began to feel ill and returned to the Hospital on December 15. It was discovered that day that Eddy had developed an infection that became uncontainable, according to close friend Tyler Ford.

She was placed on life support on Monday, December 19, 2022, and passed away later that night.

Honored by costars

At the time of her passing, Eddy was honored by many of her friends and costars. However, more recently she was officially honored by her costars from ‘General Hospital’ in their latest episode, which aired Wednesday, March 29, 2023.

The show’s characters took turns reflecting on their loss and saying kind words to the former costar.

“Sonya was such a beautiful soul. Her smile would light up everybody’s day,” Lynn Herring, who plays Lucy Coe said.

She continued, “She never complained about being tired. She was a spark of joy.”

“She was just…one word that I can think of is joy,” said Maurice Benard, who plays Sonny Corinthos.

Kirsten Storms, who plays Maxie Jones shared, “Sonya, I’m getting emotional talking about it, was one of the most positive people, I think, that has ever worked in this building.”

Donnell Turner, who plays Curtis Ashford recalled, “She had a big spirit and a light around her. You knew when she was in the room, but I mean that in all the best ways.”
