Chris Hemsworth starred in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ in June 2022, but the 39-year-old’s upcoming schedule has raised questions about the future of his acting career.

The Australian is slated to appear in four upcoming projects, including reprising his role as ‘Thor’ in an upcoming ‘Avengers’ sequel.

Along with the Marvel project, Hemsworth is slated to be in a Hulk Hogan biopic. However after that, his schedule is pretty wide open.

Hemsworth said he isn’t retiring, but a source questions that

This stems from Hemsworth’s discovery that he has a genetic predisposition for Alzheimer’s disease while filming ‘Limitless’.

“Most of us, we like to avoid speaking about death,” Hemsworth told Vanity Fair in November 2022.

“Then to all of a sudden be told some big indicators are actually pointing to this as the route which is going to happen, the reality of it sinks in. Your own mortality.”

Although he said that he is only slowing down, not retiring, from acting, a source told Page Six that it certainly looks as though things are headed in that direction.

“He doesn’t plan to take on many roles because of [learning about his high risk for] Alzheimer’s,” the source added.

The preventative measures Hemsworth is now taking

Hemsworth has two copies of the gene APOE4, meaning he is eight to 10 times more likely to battle the progressive disease. Only two to three percent of the population has a copy of the gene from both parents.

During his interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth noted that along with being more selective about his projects, he’s also spending more time with wife Elsa Pataky, daughter India, 10, and sons Sasha and Tristan, 8.

“I feel thankful that I have in my arsenal the sort of tools to best prepare myself and prevent things happening in that way,” he said. “The benefit of preventative steps is that it affects the rest of your life.

“When you have predisposition to … anything — it’s all about sleep management, stress management, nutrition, movement fitness. It’s all kind of the same tools that need to be applied in a consistent way.”
