Gwyneth Paltrow’s ski accident trial is now over, with the jury deciding she wasn’t at fault for the 2016 collision at the posh Utah ski resort.

The jury dismissed the complaint of Terry Sanderson, a retired optometrist who sued the actress over injuries he sustained when the two crashed at the Deer Valley ski resort.

The trial, which captured the attention of pop culture and social media, lasted eight days, and offered one last moment of intrigue after the verdict was read.

What did Paltrow whisper to Sanderson?

As Paltrow was leaving the courtroom, she appeared to whisper something to Sanderson that wasn’t picked up by the microphones.

His lawyer later told Entertainment Tonight that Paltrow whispered, “I wish you well.”

“Thank you, dear,” he is said to have replied.

In a statement released by her representatives, Paltrow thanked the judge and jury for their work, adding: “I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity.”

Her lawyer, Steven Owens, also read a statement outside the court.

“Gwyneth has a history of advocating for what she believes in -- this situation was no different and she will continue to stand up for what is right,” he said.

Sanderson initially sued for $3.1 million

Sanderson was initially seeking $3.1 million from Paltrow, alleging that the incident negatively impacted his life. A judge later ruled that he could only ask for $300,000.

“I got hit in my back so hard, right at my shoulder blades and it felt like it was perfectly centered,” Sanderson told the court. “And the fists and the poles were right there at my shoulder blades ... never been hit that hard. And I’m flying, I’m absolutely flying.”

Paltrow denied that she ran into Sanderson, with her attorneys accusing him of exploiting the actress’ wealth and fame. She testified that she was on the slope with her family when Sanderson’s skis came between hers and they fell.

“Mr. Sanderson categorically hit me on the ski slope, and that is the truth,” said Paltrow.

In response, Paltrow countersued for $1 and attorney fees, a symbolic action that mirrored Taylor Swift and her response to a radio host’s defamation lawsuit.
