What does the launch of Max mean for current HBO Max customers?

The new streaming service will be available starting May 23, but what does it mean for current HBO Max customers?

HBO Max and Discovery Plus are merging to create a consolidated streaming platform called Max.

The announcement came during an event on Wednesday, with Warner Bros. Discovery providing details on the new service.

Max will launch on May 23 and cost up to $19.99 per month, with the two cheaper tiers priced at $15.99 and $9.99.

One big question being asked following the news is what does this mean for current HBO Max customers?

What does the launch of Max mean for current HBO Max customers?

When it comes to current HBO Max customers, there is one big change.

Following the launch of Max, only those subscribed to the new service’s most expensive tier, Max Ultimate Ad Free ($19.99 per month), will be able to view all the 4K Ultra HD content currently available.

Currently, HBO Max customers are able to see a selection of 4K programming via the ad-free plan.

Aside from that, HBO Max customers will mostly just get access to the new content and enhanced features provided by Max.

Programming from Discovery brands like HGTV, Discovery Channel and Food Network will now be available to subscribers, who will have access to Max at the same price as their current HBO Max subscriptions ($15.99 per month without ads and $9.99 per month with ads).

The regular Max ad-free tier will offer two concurrent streams, which differs from HBO Max, which offered up to three.

HBO Max subscribers will still have access to their current plan features for a minimum of six months following the launch of Max, which is set for May 23. Their profiles, settings, watching history, “Continue Watching” and “My List” will all migrate to Max as well.

Customers who get HBO with cable or satellite TV package

For customers who get HBO with their cable or satellite TV package, they may get Max at no extra cost. Warner Bros. Discovery is listing which providers will support the service at this link.

Current HBO Max subscribers can also visit the website for additional information.
