What is JLo’s ‘The Mother’ about?
Jennifer Lopez takes on the role of an action star in the new Netflix movie.
The new Netflix thriller, ‘The Mother’, is an action cocktail produced by and starring Jennifer Lopez.
JLo’s character is portrayed as the flawed hero, and the movie’s director has a self-proclaimed ambition to have her be the female Jason Bourne or James Bond.
Lopez as action star
Though JLo has been chiefly devoted to her more profitable career as a singer than to her film career, she still manages to pull off a film every year or so. Lopez most recently appeared in ‘Shotgun Wedding’.
Lopez, who has appeared in both romantic comedies and action films over the years, appears in ‘The Mother’ as the strong female lead who is capable of facing by herself the challenges of a world dominated by men. The actress makes her way through the movie with shots and punches — and still manages to look like she belongs on the cover of a fashion magazine.
‘The Mother’, though an action thriller, seems to not take itself too seriously, and comes off as almost a parody of the classic ‘90s films of the same genre.
What is the plot?
The movie seed JLo take on the role of a former special forces agent who is linked to two dangerous arms dealers, from whom she flees when she is about to give birth. Lopez’s character discovers at that time that the arms dealers were making shady deals, and turns them in.
Fast forward a decade, where her daughter is kidnapped, and the star is forced to track her down and protect her from her former associates — who have not given up on their revenge since she exposed them.
