There are few musicians who have had the incredibly longevity of Colombian artist Shakira. Her recording career began in 1990 and she continues to make music today, dominating the Latin music scene.

Last year her collaboration track ‘Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53′ reached No. 1 in 16 countries and broke 14 Guinness World Records. The song featured very pointed lyrics aimed at her former partner Gerald Pique, who had cheated on her with his assistant.

Pique enjoyed an illustrious player career with FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team. He has a number of business ventures and is currently promoting his ‘Kings League’ soccer franchise that has featured the likes of Sergio Aguero. After such a successful career as a soccer player Pique now boasts a net worth of around $80 million, but his bank balance is dwarfed by that of his former partner.

Shakira’s net worth is thought to be around $300 million, making her the second-most successful Latin singer of all time, behind only Gloria Estefan. Shakira has sold more than 125 million singles and albums over the course of her career and picked up three Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards and 13 Latin Grammy Awards.

Despite her incredible wealth Shakira was involved in a tax controversy when he name was included in the Paradise Papers disclosure. In 2019 more than 13 million electronic documents related to offshore investments were leaked to German reporters and Shakira was accused of downplaying her earnings in a bid to reduce the amount of tax she played in Spain.

In July 2021 a Spanish judge found that there was “evidence of criminality” and tax fraud charges were filed against Shakira. In November 2023, shortly before the start of her trial, Shakira settled the case with a €7.5 million fine.

Despite that hiccup, Shakira remains one of the most successful and wealth Latin musicians of all time and her net wealth has barely dipped. Her latest album ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ was released earlier this month and looks set to be another commercial hit for her, detailing the much-publicised break-up between her and Pique.
