An actor boasting a career that has spanned more than 20 years, Zac Efron this week became the 2,767th recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“You have no idea how I’m feeling right now, this is so surreal,” Efron said during Monday’s dedication ceremony, which also saw speeches by the 36-year-old’s good friend and fellow actor, Miles Teller, and his Iron Claw co-star Jeremy Allen White.

The event on Hollywood Boulevard was also attended by a number of other celebrities, including Kenny Ortega, the director of High School Musical - the film trilogy that saw Efron rise to fame in the 2000s. High School Musical’s executive producer, Bill Borden, was also there to see the actor honoured.

During his acceptance speech, Efron thanked Ortega and Borden for handing him his big break. “You guys were both instrumental in giving me my start in High School Musical,” he said. “For that I’m just eternally grateful. I still think about it every day - I sing the songs in the shower.”

Efron also paid tribute to the late Matthew Perry, with whom he shared the big screen in the 2009 movie 17 Again. Perry “was so kind and generous with me when we worked together”, Efron said, adding: “Collaborating with him […] was so much fun, and it really did propel me and motivate me in so many ways. It really pushed me into the next chapter of my career.”

Much of Efron’s income has come from his many starring roles in film and on TV. Meanwhile, he has set up his own production company, Ninjas Runnin’ Wild, which he runs together with his brother.
