A show that’s among the nominees this weekend, Saturday Night Live boasts an unparalleled track record in the Emmys, having won a record 90 statuettes since it made its television debut back in 1975.

Over the past half century, the comedy sketch show’s nearly 100 wins have come from a whopping 331 nominations - with two more awards potentially on their way on Sunday, when the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards are held in Los Angeles.

Will Saturday Night Live win more Emmys at this weekend’s awards?

SNL is one of two nominees for Outstanding Scripted Variety Series - alongside HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver - while cast member Bowen Yang is in the running for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

Organised by the US’s National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, this weekend’s TV awards gala comes a week after SNL won six awards at NATAS’s 76th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, an event that differs from the regular Primetime Emmys as it is focused on behind-the-scenes achievements.

SNL took its unparalleled Emmy haul to 90 last Sunday by winning in the following categories: Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Variety Series; Outstanding Makeup For A Variety, Nonfiction Or Reality Program; Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork For A Series; Outstanding Production Design For A Variety Or Reality Series; Outstanding Directing For A Variety Series; and Outstanding Hairstyling For A Variety, Nonfiction Or Reality Program.

What was SNL’s most recent Primetime Emmy win?

SNL last won a regular Primetime Emmy in 2022, when it beat HBO’s A Black Lady Sketch Show to the award for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series.

Who is hosting the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards?

The Canadian actors Eugene and Dan Levy are to host the Primetime Emmys - the first time the ceremony has been anchored by a father-son pairing. “We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all on Sept. 15,” the duo said when they were announced as hosts in August.
