New releases from The Weeknd, Lady Gaga, Rihanna on the horizon in 2025
2025 is shaping up to be a musical bonanza year with a plethora of big name artists expected to release new albums in the new year.
With the curtain set to come down on 2024, the past year will be remembered for the Drake vs Kendrick Lamar spat that ran and ran for an eternity back in April.
The year in music will also be remembered for Taylor Swift and her Eras Tour which continued it’s epic journey across the planet, breaking records in its path with the final dates of the marathon venture concluding in Vancouver next weekend.
It was also the year Charli XCX became a household name with her ‘Brat’ album one of the sounds of the summer. Many of her songs were fuelled by TikTok with US VP Kamala Harris even embracing ‘Brat Culture’ as part of her presidential campaign.
2024 will also be sadly remembered as the year when former One Direction member Liam Payne lost his life after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires in early November.
What’s on the radar for 2025?
The first big high profile release of the new year is set to drop on 24 January with the new offering from The Weeknd. ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ is the sixth studio release from Canadian Abel Tesfaye and will serve as the final part of an album trilogy that began with After Hours (2020) and continued with Dawn FM (2022).
Eusexua is the upcoming third studio album by English singer FKA Twigs and is also released on 24 January 2025. It marks her first studio album in five years and follows 2019 album Magdalene, and her first full body of work in over three years, following the mixtape Caprisongs (2022).
“Eusexua” is also the title track and lead single off the album which saw the light of day in September of this year.
The 15th studio offering from Welsh rockers, Manic Street Preachers sees the light of day a week later. New single ‘Hiding in Plain Sight’ is the first ever Manics single with lead vocals from Nicky Wire and serves as a taster for the new record, ‘Critical Thinking’ with the band set to embark on a sold-out tour of the UK to promote the Sony Music release.
Rihanna’s ‘R9′, Lady Gaga’s ‘LG7′ and Lana Del Rey’s ‘Lasso’ have yet to be assigned definitive release dates but are expected to drop in the first half of the new year.
Cardi B, Miley Cyrus, Lil Nas X and Frank Ocean are just a handful of other high profile artists expected to release new studio albums in the new year.
