The entertainment industry’s American awards season is a celebration for celebrities and fans of every genre of music, film and television.

Scheduled to take place on Sunday September 15, the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will be televised at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC. The Emmys come hot on the heels of Wednesday’s MTV Video Music Awards, which saw pop icon Taylor Swift take home seven accolades, including Artist of the Year.

The Emmy Awards differ greatly from the Oscars, which recognize cinema and the film industry. The Oscars are considered one of the most prestigious award shows in the world, and are presented each year by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The Emmy Awards are also highly acclaimed, but the awards are distributed to distinguished individuals, shows and series in the television industry. The awards are provided by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

So-called ‘National Active’ members of the Television Academy - a group of people that are widely considered experts in their field - vote on both the nominees and the winners.

The Emmy Awards are made up of the Primetime Emmys, Sports Emmys and Daytime Emmys, depending on the type of television. The Primetime Emmys are then divided into three award classes: the regular Primetime Emmy Awards, the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards and the Primetime Engineering Emmy Awards.

Which show has most 2024 Emmy nominations?

Ahead of the 76th Primetime Emmys, the FX series Shogun leads the nominees with nods for a total of 25 awards, including Outstanding Drama Series. The Bear, also an FX show, has been nominated for 23 gongs, with Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building close behind on 21.
