Season 21 of The Bachelorette, starring 26-year-old Floridian Jenn Tran, is due to hit small screens in America next month.

Who is Bachelorette 21 star Jenn Tran?

Tran, who is a physician assistant student from Miami, was a contestant on the latest season of the ABC reality dating show’s sister series, The Bachelor.

She was announced as the next Bachelorette during The Bachelor’s season 28 finale in March - a show that saw 28-year-old tennis coach Joey Graziadei end up with Kelsey Anderson, a 25-year-old junior project manager from New Orleans, Louisiana.

The first Asian-American lead on The Bachelorette, Tran appears not to have been the showrunners’ first choice for the role. Her fellow Bachelor contestants Daisy Kent and Maria Georgas, who finished second and fourth, respectively, have both said that they turned down the chance to be the next Bachelorette.

Speaking on The Viall Files podcast, Kent revealed that she opted out for health reasons, having undergone a recent cochlear implant in the wake of a Lyme Disease diagnosis.I knew as the lead, it’s a lot on you. Not only emotionally but also physically too,” Kent said. Meanwhile, Georgas told the Call Her Daddy podcast that she turned her back on The Bachelorette as the prospect of being the season 21 lead “became very overwhelming”.

Eliminated from The Bachelor season 28 in Week 7, Tran is described in her official ABC profile as “sweet and compassionate”. She has “dedicated her life to helping others”, the network adds. “The bilingual Vietnamese beauty currently resides in Miami and is ready to find love with a man who’s as reliable and thoughtful as she is.”

When will The Bachelorette season 21 air?

Season 21 of The Bachelorette is to premiere on ABC at 8pm ET/5pm PT on Monday 8 July 2024. Hulu subscribers will be able to stream the episode the following day.
