Lady Gaga‘s seventh studio album Harlequin finally hits stores this week - the 13-track album serves as a “companion album” to the forthcoming soundtrack of Todd Phillips’ new musical movie release: Joker: Folie à Deux in which the singer stars as Harleen “Lee” Quinzel / Harley Quinn.

Today, the singer posted a teaser of what appears to be the opening track on Side B of the album, entitled, The Joker, with accompanying video shot in the Louvre museum in Paris. In it, she pulls out her red lipstick and crudely paints a smile on Da Vinci’s enigmatic masterpiece, Mona Lisa.

Harlequin also sees Gaga return to jazz standards, with covers of classics such as The Saints, I’ve Got the World on a String and Get Happy. She recorded the album, which also features duets with Joker co-star Joaquin Phoenix, at Shangri-La in Malibu - the same studio where she recorded her 2016 album, Joanne. “I’ve developed a relationship with this place,” she confesses. “Almost like a person. When I’m here at this studio, I’m relaxed and I am able to face my demons and what’s remarkable is -that’s the music. I’m able to hear it back”.

When does Lady Gaga’s Harlequin album hit stores?

Harlequin can be preordered from Lady Gaga’s official website store and goes on general release on Friday 27 September with all orders shipping out on that date. The album is available in various different formats: standard black vinyl ($33), red vinyl ($33), CD ($14), as a download ($10) - and for the diehards, on exclusive limited edition silver-grey vinyl, gatefold sleeve and alternate cover art ($33).

Streaming will be available from the usual providers: Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and Amazon Music.

The release comes in tandem with the Joker: Folie à Deux soundtrack, which hits stores next week (4 October). “I wrote a waltz for the movie,” Gaga told Vogue. “There are moments in the film where I’m playing an adult woman who sings like a little girl. And she’s moving through the world with this kind of immaturity, which I thought was interesting. I had this vision: that my mom gave me my grandma’s dresses when I was a little girl and that they still fit me as an adult because I never really grew out of them. And my relationship with music in this film is like the way a child discovers music - as the ultimate form of happiness.”

Another studio album is already in the pipeline, provisionally titled LG7 and also recorded in Malibu, which is expected to drop in February. Fans won’t have to wait too long to get a taste of the new Lady Gaga album, she posted on social media that the first single will be released sometime next month.
