Directed by Ezra Edelman, the 2016 documentary chronicles Simpson’s life and career - from his emergence as a star football player at college and NFL level, to his subsequent transition into acting and football punditry, and his murder and armed robbery trials.

Created for ESPN Films’ ‘30 for 30′ series of sports documentaries, O.J.: Made in America was released as a five-part series and in theatrical format.

It won a number of accolades. Most notably, it scooped the Oscar for the Best Documentary Feature at the 2017 Academy Awards.

Family reveals O.J. Simpson death

In a statement on social media on Thursday, Simpson’s family confirmed his death.

“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
