Which networks and streaming services have the most nominations for the 2024 Golden Globes?
This weekend, the Beverly Hilton hosts the 81st edition of the annual Golden Globes film and TV awards ceremony.
Two years after being boycotted by its broadcast partner, and by many stars, studios and publicists, the Golden Globes awards gala is to take place for the first time since the disbanding of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the event’s controversy-plagued former organisers.
The Golden Globes are now run by Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge Industries, which took full control of the film and TV awards ceremony in June. What’s more, the Globes’ TV coverage has moved to the network CBS, after NBC ended its long-term association with the event over the HFPA scandals that prompted Hollywood to stay away in 2022.
Which movies/series have most Golden Globe nominations?
In December, the nominees for the 2024 Golden Globes were announced. Barbie was the most-nominated movie, picking up nine awards nods, followed by Oppenheimer on eight. In the Globes’ TV section, meanwhile, Succession led the way with nine nominations, ahead of The Bear and Only Murders in the Building, which are both up for five awards.
Which distributors and platforms have the most nominees?
Netflix is among the distributors whose movies have garnered the most nominations. Among the streaming giant’s awards candidates are: Maestro, which is in the running for Best Drama Motion Picture; May December, which has been nominated for Best Musical or Comedy Motion Picture; and Society of Snow, which is in contention for Best Non-English Language Motion Picture.
Warner Bros also boasts several Golden Globe nominations thanks to Barbie, while A24′s contenders include The Zone of Interest and Past Lives. Universal is also in the frame for Golden Globes recognition for Oppenheimer and The Super Mario Bros Movie.
When it comes to television, HBO/Max boasts the greatest number of nominations - 17 - courtesy of shows such as Succession, The Last of Us and Barry. Netflix has 15 nominations in the Golden Globes’ TV section, for content including the series All the Light We Cannot See, Beef, The Crown and The Diplomat, in addition to several comedy specials.
Meanwhile, ABC is up for multiple awards for Abbot Elementary, FX has received numerous nods for The Bear and Fargo, and a trio of series - Yellowjackets, The Curse and Fellow Travelers - have left Showtime in the race for several gongs.
