Tucker Carlson made a shocking exit from Fox News earlier on Monday, with a new face stepping in for what was his usual 8 p.m. slot.

Who filled in for Tucker Carlson after shocking Fox News exit?

Brian Kilmeade stepped in for Carlson in what was his usual slot, with the show’s name changing from ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ to ‘Fox News Tonight’. The ‘Fox & Friends’ anchor addressed Carlson’s departure at the beginning of the program.

“As you probably have heard, Fox News and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways,” Kilmeade said. “I wish Tucker the best. I’m great friends with Tucker and always will be.

“But right now, it’s time for ‘Fox News Tonight,’ so let’s get started.”

While Kilmeade stepped in for Monday’s show, a permanent host for the coveted time slot has yet to be announced.

The move comes after Fox News announced that Carlson was leaving the network in a brief statement.

“Fox News Media and Tucker Carlson have agreed to part ways. We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor,” read the statement.

Carlson’s last show took place on April 21, meaning that the network’s highest-rated primetime host didn’t get the chance to say goodbye to his fans.

Timing of Carlson’s departure

According to CNN, the decision to part ways with Carlson was made on Friday evening by Fox Corporation chief executive Lachlan Murdoch and Fox News chief executive Suzanne Scott.

The decision comes one week after Fox News settled a defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million over the network’s dissemination of election lies.

Carlson was expected to have to testify in the matter and the happenings at his show were expected to be analyzed in a separate suit Fox is navigating involving Abby Grossberg. The former producer alleges that Carlson’s staff made crude remarks about women and Jews.
