Who has won the most MTV Video Music Awards?
Taylor Swift won big at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, taking home a total of nine awards and surpassed Madonna to become the second-most awarded artist in history.
The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards are set to take place at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York on Wednesday having been moved back a day to avoid clashing with the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris (on Tuesday, 10 September).
It comes as little surprise to learn that Taylor Swift leads the way in terms of nominations, with the 34-year-old reciening 12 in total including Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year and Best Pop Artist. The singer/songwriter will be looking to her record nine awards in 2023 and could, in theory, go one stage better this time around.
Post Malone is the second most nominated artist with nine. Sabrina Carpenter, Eminem and Ariana Grande are all up for six awards, and SZA and Megan Thee Stallion have five nominations each.
Taylor looking to leapfrog Beyonce
With her nine award wins at the 2023 event, Taylor Swift moved into second place, edging past Madonna on 20 as the most successful artist of all-time in terms of VMA wins with 23.
Beyonce still holds the top spot with 29 and it’s more than feasible that the singer fresh from the European leg of her mammoth Eras Tour will outdo the former Destiny’s Child lead singer on Wednesday night.
