2023 ACADEMY AWARDS
Who is Colin Farrell bringing to the Oscars?
‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ star will be bringing his son as a guest to the 2023 Academy Awards
Actor Colin Farrell revealed who he’s bringing to the Oscars on Sunday, and it’s none other than his 13-year-old son Henry Tadeusz Farrell. The actor is up for Best Actor at the prestigious award show for ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’, which also marks his first-ever Oscar nomination.
The actor won Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy at this year’s Golden Globe Awards for ‘Banshee’. He was also recently nominated for Best Actor at the 2023 SAG awards and Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 2023 BAFTA awards for the movie.
They’ll be wearing matching suits
The Irish actor is excited to have his son by his side at Sunday’s award show, and can’t wait to show off their matching velvet suits.
“My youngest fellow will be my plus one,” the actor told IndieWire. “So the two of us are wearing the same tuxedos and we’re looking forward to it.”
On reuniting with his ‘Banshees’ cast, Farrell says he’s looking forward to spending time with them and not being too concerned with winning.
“That’ll be a laugh, and it’ll be the last push across the line. We’ll just celebrate the day and enjoy it, and take any kind of thoughts of winning and all that stuff off the table.
“We don’t see each other that much, we live in different countries, so to be around them as much as I have has been f—--- magic. It’s been such a balm for the soul,” he added.
“And then also, honest to God, to be at the forefront of celebrating the work of others has been really, really enjoyable. . . The sense of community has been extraordinary.”
A change in direction for Farrell’s career
Since taking on the role of Pádraic Súilleabháin in ‘Banshees’, Farrell has further explored the joy of acting and of “collaborating with other people and bringing stories to life.” He also feels that having stepped down from leading roles and getting more into supporting roles has opened him up to richer parts.
“I honestly feel like every actor is a supporting actor,” Farrell explained.
“If you’re not a supporting actor as a lead, you’re not f—--- serving the story. If you’re not supporting the other actors, if you’re not supporting the story, you’re not doing your job.”
