American Horror Story star Emma Roberts’ famous family is officially set to get bigger after she revealed on Instagram she had got engaged to boyfriend Cody John.

The 33-year-old is, of course, the daughter of Oscar and Golden Globe nominated actor Eric Roberts, and the niece of Julia Roberts, who comfortably surpassed her brother’s achievements to become an Academy Award winner and one of the most commercially successful actors of all time.

Acting very much runs in the family, then, and that also now extends to those who are not blood relatives. Kind of.

Roberts uploaded a picture of her posing alongside John on Instagram, while subtly flashing her engagement ring. “Putting this here before my mom tells everyone,” reads the accompanying caption.

The happy couple got together after meeting through mutual friends in August 2022, a few months after Roberts had split from another actor, Garrett Hedlund. She has one child, a daughter born in December 2020, with the ‘Tron: Legacy’ star.

Roberts and John have kept their relationship low-profile, only making rare public appearances together, such as at Coachella in 2023 and the Lacoste Womenswear Fall/Winter 2024-2025 show for Paris Fashion Week in March this year.

As a result, not a huge amount is known about John, although what we do know appears to contradict a recent interview Roberts did with Flaunt magazine.

In it, she claimed she “didn’t want to date actors anymore,” claiming it was “hard for two actors to be together”.

The twist in the tale is that John is, for all intents and purposes, an actor. He has appeared in Hulu’s Wu-Tang: An American Saga, The Rookie on ABC and The CW’s In the Dark, albeit not in especially high-profile roles.
