Lopez and Affleck first met on the set of the movie Gigli in early 2002, before getting engaged in November that year. Just four days before their 2003 wedding was due to take place, however, they called off their nuptials. They then confirmed their separation in January 2004.

Seventeen years later, Lopez and Affleck gave their relationship another go, and in April 2002 Lopez announced that she was engaged to the actor and Oscar-winning filmmaker for a second time. The pair married in a Las Vegas ceremony that July, before holding a three-day celebration in Georgia the following month.

But in May this year, rumours of marital strife began to surface after Lopez and Affleck were not seen together in public for more than a month. Now, according to widespread reports, they are indeed heading for divorce: their respective business managers are working to agree a settlement, although the frosty relations between Lopez and Affleck are holding up the process, TMZ says.

The delay in agreeing financial terms comes despite the fact that the pair signed a prenup before their wedding. Their Beverly Hills mansion, bought in June last year for some $60 million, is their only shared asset; both will keep all earnings and assets accumulated before getting married.

Neither Lopez nor Affleck has offered any public comment about their seemingly imminent divorce, but a source has told the Daily Mail that they will release a joint statement once their legal separation is finalised.

Lopez and Affleck “will say how they have much love for each other and how they fought to make it work, but couldn’t”, the insider revealed to the media outlet.

“Honestly, in the end they could not come to a compromise. What they had before is gone and they have both accepted it.”
