Who previously held the Spotify single-day streaming record before Taylor Swift?
The eleventh studio by the singer-songwriter saw the light of day last Friday and has met with positive critical acclaim.
Global expectation was sky-high last Friday as Taylor Swift released her eleventh studio album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’.
The album, initially a 16 track piece of work was quickly augmented with Swift confirming a further 15 tracks would be released as part if the TTPD Anthology.
The 34-year-old is arguably the biggest name in contemporary music on the planet and is shortly set to head back on tour again as the record grossing Eras Tour visits Europe with shows in Paris, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Madrid and London planned.
The artist is set to break a number of records in the short term future and will tie Jay-Z for the most No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart for a solo artist as TTPD is expected to top the charts next week, she has had 13 albums top the chart, so this would be her 14th. The Beatles are the only artist above Swift and Jay-Z with 19 number 1 albums in the US.
In the UK, should TTPD top the album charts there, Swift would tie level with Madonna as the female artist with the most No. 1 albums in UK history with the Pennsylvania born singer already boasting 11 albums topping the UK albums chart.
Spotify records tumble
Streaming giant Spotify have also confirmed that the new album has eclipsed the previous record for most streams in a single day with over 300 million streams in a single day with Swift became the most-streamed artist in a single day in Spotify history.
The new single ‘Fortnight (feat. Post Malone)’ also became Spotify’s most-streamed song in a single day.
Swift broke her own record with the new album as 2022′s 10th studio album Midnights, then become Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day at the time.
As the 34-year-old states at the end of the track ‘Clara Bow’ on TTPD, ‘the future’s bright....dazzling’.
