Ana de Armas has spoken out against celebrities on social media, and would rather see a little more mystery in Hollywood. The ‘Blonde’ actress pointed out how social media has changed the way the public sees celebrities, and thinks it’s better kept under wraps.

Ana de Armas has deleted a number of her own social media apps, but held on to her Instagram account to promote her work.

In an interview with Vanity Fair published February 15, de Armas explained how she feels about the app.

“I barely use it because I just feel like things are always wrong on social media,” the ‘Knives Out’ actress said. “If it was up to me, I would delete Instagram right now, but I can’t.”

“I understand that I’m not just an actress. I have other brands that I’m working with and I have other commitments.

Should celebs be on social media?

Ana de Armas explained how social media affects younger generations and their perception of celebrities.

“I feel like the new generations don’t have that concept of mystery surrounding fame, because of social media,” Ana de Armas said. “There is so much information out there and oversharing.”

“The concept of a movie star is someone untouchable you only see onscreen. That mystery is gone, she continued. “For the most part, we’ve done that to ourselves—nobody’s keeping anything from anyone, anymore.”

The Golden Age of film

Ana de Armas, who plays Marilyn Monroe in the Netflix movie, ‘Blonde’, reflected on the difference between the golden age of movies and how Hollywood is as we know it today.

“There was a lot there that I could relate to,” the 34-year-old actress said nostalgically.

“If you put Marilyn Monroe ‘the movie star’ aside, she’s just an actress trying to navigate life and this system, which is so hard to navigate for anybody.”

The emphasis on privacy

Another big concern the actress has about social media, is the lack of privacy it allows celebrities like herself.

“It’s tricky because you feel the pressure to share some personal insight, or something about your private life, to keep people interested in you. You have to find a balance somehow, which I find very difficult,” Ana de Armas explained.
