If there is something that distinguishes Jared Leto, apart from acting and his performance in the world of music, it is his passion for extreme sports - especially climbing. His passion for heights put him in the spotlight this week when he became the first person to climb the Empire State Building in New York.

This morning, the 51-year-old actor made history by climbing part of the iconic skyscraper to promote the upcoming world tour by his band, Thirty Seconds To Mars. The 61-date Seasons tour - the band’s first tour in five years will kick off in Argentina in March 2024, to coincide with the recent release of the group’s sixth studio album: It’s The End Of The World But It’s A Beautiful Day.

Leto’s ascent was broadcast live on NBC, where the vocalist of the Los Angeles group offered a brief interview, noting that he was “pleasantly surprised” to see his mother peering out of an 80th floor window. However, the climb was not easy, he completed it unscathed apart from a few cuts to his left hand.

“I’ve had a fascination with the Empire State Building, the ‘world’s number one attraction’, since I was a kid. Not sure if it was Guinness world records, King Kong, but something about this iconic structure always captured my imagination. Built in just 13 short months, in one of the greatest cities in the world it has always been a powerful symbol to me of all the possibilities in life. As many of you also know, I love to climb. It’s one of the few things I’ve found that takes me away from some of the pressures of life and helps me to find a bit of freedom and equanimity”, the Oscar winner wrote on his official Instagram page.
