Morgan Freeman made an appearance at the 2023 Oscars on Sunday night, but it’s what he was wearing that had fans talking about him.

Why did Morgan Freeman wear a glove at the Oscars?

The 85-year-old took the stage with ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ star Margot Robbie as they celebrated Warner Bros.’ 100th anniversary at the Academy Awards.

“The Dark Night’s Lucius Fox hanging out with the incomparable Barbie,” said Freeman while talking about his role in the Christopher Nolan ‘Batman’ trilogy, and Robbie’s most recent project.

Fans noticed that Freeman wore a black glove on his hand, but it isn’t the first time he’s done so.

Freeman has worn a compression glove many times since he was part of a devastating accident back in 2008 when his car flipped over several times on a Mississippi highway.

The accident, which was almost fatal, left the actor’s left hand paralyzed, though it’s rarely seen during his movies. He also usually removes it for promotional videos and photos.

It left Freeman with a broken left shoulder, arm and elbow, and doctors needed four hours to repair the nerve damage.

“I suffered nerve damage and it hasn’t gotten better. I can’t move it,” he told People in 2010. “If you don’t move your hand, it will swell up. Do you know you move your hand about a million times a day?”

Freeman’s glove was on display at the Qatar 2022 World Cup

While Freeman isn’t usually seen with the glove, he did wear it during the opening ceremony of the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The actor delivered a speech to those in attendance and watching around the world before the match between host nation Qatar and Ecuador.

He wore a gold version of the glove, which he used to reach out to a YouTuber.

“We gather here as one big tribe and Earth is the tent we all live in,” said Freeman.

“Football spans the world, unites nations in their love of the beautiful game. What brings together nations also brings together communities.

“We all have a story on football and how it brought us together and this land has a story of its very own.”
