The ‘Yellowstone’ drama surrounding star Kevin Costner’s role in the future of the series may have contributed to the cast deciding to ditch their scheduled event at the PaleyFest on Saturday.

Stars of the show, including Costner, Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Gil Birmingham, Wes Bentley, Kelsey Asbille, and Jacki Weaver were all confirmed to be attending, along with creator Taylor Sheridan and producer David Glasser.

Half an hour before the cast was to walk the event’s red carpet, it was then confirmed that only four cast members, Josh Lucas, Wendy Moniz, Mo Brings Plenty and Dawn Olivieri would be attending the show, along with Paramount Network development president Keith Cox.

Fans disappointed by no-shows

Variety has since reported that cast members who were unable to attend at the last minute had scheduling conflicts. Fans, who had to purchase tickets for the ‘Yellowstone’ panel, were disappointed when the main cast didn’t show up, as the cast list was never updated on PaleyFest’s website.

Fans took to social media to air their disappointment, some saying they had paid over $100 per ticket solely to see the main cast at the ‘Yellowstone’ panel.

Others felt shortchanged by PaleyFest’s inability to let fans know with more time that the panel wouldn’t go on with the main cast.

The four cast members who did attend confirmed that the second half of Season 5 was meant to air sometime in the summer, but that it has not started filming, and that no filming start date has been given.

‘Yellowstone’ drama

Costner plays John Dutton, the patriarch of the Dutton family who runs the Yellowstone ranch in Paradise Valley, Park County, Montana. At the beginning of the year, it was reported that Costner said that he wanted to reduce his filming days from 60 to 50 for Season 5.

Costner’s lawyer, in an article from Puck, defended his client, saying that this was false.

“The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of Season 5 of Yellowstone is an absolute lie,” he said. “It’s ridiculous — and anyone suggesting it shouldn’t be believed for one second.”

At the same time that Costner’s role in the future of the series has been in question, a ‘Yellowstone’ spinoff with actor Matthew McConaughey is reportedly in the works.

Paramount and other stars of the show are confident that the show will continue with Costner.

“We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built,

“Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner,” said a Paramount spokesperson told Entertainment Tonight.
