Why did Travis Kelce almost decide not to join Taylor Swift on her Eras Tour in Australia?
Reports claim NFL star Kelce nearly opted out of joining the “Blank Space” singer on tour, only for love to have other ideas.
Over the last few months, Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce have arguably become the world’s most high-profile “power couple”. The “Shake It Off” singer’s race across the world to make it from her Eras Tour concert in Tokyo, Japan to Las Vegas was one of the recent Super Bowl’s most intriguing subplots (for some, at least). The Kansas City Chiefs tight end has now returned the favour by jetting out to Australia in support of his girlfriend, who is back on tour. Although it turns out he nearly didn’t.
Tragedy strikes Kansas City after Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory
After Kelce won his third NFL championship game in Nevada on 11 February, the couple were front and centre of the post-match celebrations, with their on-field kiss beamed around the world within seconds. Things quickly turned sour, however.
At the conclusion of the Chiefs’ victory parade in Kansas City, which Swift didn’t attend due to having to go back on tour in Australia, multiple gunshots were fired, resulting in the death of a 43-year-old mother of two, as well as injuring 22 people, some of whom were children.
The Chiefs, both as a team and an a organisation, were quick to respond to the community, with players and coaches contributing to funds and even visiting victims in the hospital. Both Kelce and Swift reportedly donated $100,000 to help the victims and their families in the aftermath of the incident.
The reported reason Kelce nearly opted out of Swift’s Eras Tour
Follow the tragedy, however, Kelce did eventually jump on a private jet and make his way to Australia via Hawaii, arriving Down Under on Thursday morning. But a source claimed to DailyMail.com that the football star almost opted out of joining his girlfriend on tour, only for love to finally get its way.
“‘They were talking about letting her get back into touring without any distractions, but they are so in love right now that the decision was made that he had to be there,” the source claims.
Will Kelce be at all of Swift’s concerts?
“They want to spend as much time with each other as possible and that is what they will keep on doing.
“Travis will be touring with her on all her stops and will return to the States when needed. They have decided that they don’t want to be away from each other for more than two weeks at a time.”
With the NFL 2024 season not starting until September, Kelce has plenty of time on his hands. After finishing a run of four nights in Sydney, Australia, Swift will then travel to Singapore, where she will perform six shows between 2 and 9 March. The pop superstar then has a two-month break before the European leg of the Eras Tour begins in Nanterre, in the suburbs of Paris, on 9 May.
