Why have Pearl Jam cancelled some European dates of their world tour?
The US rock band are at the midway point of their 2024 Dark Matter world tour but have had to cancel shows in Germany and refund concert goers.
Pearl Jam’s new album Dark Matter hit stores back in April with the band setting off to promote it across three continents the following month. Eddie Vedder and Co. are midway through their world tour having already stopped off in Vancouver, Las Vegas, LA, Dublin and Manchester as well as three sellout homecoming shows in Seattle.
Pearl Jam struck down by illness
The band was due to play two shows in Berlin but announced at the last minute that both of the concerts at the Waldbühne, scheduled for 2 and 3 July, have been cancelled. Organizers inform anyone who has tickets for the two shows in Germany will be fully reimbursed.
On Sunday, Pearl Jam’s social media administrators issued a message on the band’s accounts explaining the reason why both Berlin shows won’t be taking place and to announce that refunds are now available.
A statement read: “We are sorry to share that the Pearl Jam concerts scheduled for Tuesday, July 2nd and Wednesday, July 3rd in Berlin are cancelled. Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase.
“The impacts of this decision are not lost on us. We feel deeply that so many people spend their time, money and emotional energy to get tickets and them to come see the band and it is heart wrenching to have to disappoint you. We also appreciate the many people whose hard work goes into making these shows happen.
“Please trust we never take these decisions lightly and try to do everything possible to show up for you all. We wish a reschedule had been possible for this tour leg and hope to come back to Berlin soon. Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase. Thank you for continued understanding and support. It means the world - Pearl Jam”
A previous statement explained that the legendary 90s group have “yet to make a full recovery” after falling sick In England last week. Saturday’s show at Tottenham Hotspur stadium in London was also cancelled due to illness.
