Why is Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s divorce being delayed?

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s divorce is reportedly being held up by the poor state of the relationship between the two celebrities.

Late last month, multiple sources confirmed to the Daily Mail that Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 51, are preparing to turn in divorce papers, following months of speculation over the state of their marriage.

Lopez-Affleck “lines of communication closed”

However, TMZ now reports that the pair’s respective business managers, who are handling the financial side of the divorce, are struggling to finalise a settlement because their clients are no longer on speaking terms.

“The lines of communication are closed and it’s making it difficult to hammer out a divorce agreement,” TMZ say, citing sources “with direct knowledge” of the Lopez-Affleck divorce proceedings.

The delay in agreeing financial terms comes despite the fact that Lopez and Affleck signed a prenup before their wedding just over two years ago. Their only shared asset is their luxury mansion in Beverly Hills, which is now up for sale for a reported price of $68 million.

Lopez and Affleck expected to issue divorce statement

So far, neither Lopez nor Affleck has offered any public comment about their seemingly imminent divorce. Speaking to the Daily Mail, however, a source has revealed that they will release a joint statement once their legal separation is finalised.

Lopez and Affleck “will say how they have much love for each other and how they fought to make it work, but couldn’t”, the insider said. “Honestly, in the end they could not come to a compromise. What they had before is gone and they have both accepted it.”

Lopez, an actor and Grammy-nominated singer, married Affleck, an actor and Oscar-winning filmmaker, in a Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022.

Rumours of strife in the Lopez-Affleck marriage first surfaced this spring, after the A-listers were not seen together in public for over a month.
