Why losing role in ‘Mission Impossible 7′ was such a gut punch for Nicholas Hoult
Although he was keen to work with Tom Cruise on the next Mission Impossible, Hoult had to leave the project.
Nicholas Hoult has shed some light on getting cut from the role he was meant to play in the newest ‘Mission: Impossible’, which is set to hit theaters this summer.
Why Hoult isn’t in ‘Mission Impossible 7′
In an interview with the Guardian, the 33-year-old revealed that Tom Cruise personally called him to be part of the franchise for its two-part finale, which will start this summer with the seventh film, ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.’
Hoult accepted the role, which reports claimed was a huge one, as it was the finale’s main villain. Although he was cast in ‘Mission: Impossible 7′ in January 2020, by May 2020, he was already exiting the movie and being replaced by Esai Morales.
Hoult says that being dropped from ‘Mission Impossible 7′ was just one in a series of disappointments.
“I screen-tested for ‘Batman’ and didn’t get it,” Hoult said. “Screen-tested for ‘Top Gun,’ didn’t get it. Then I got the call from Tom Cruise: ‘Hey, how about “Mission Impossible?”’ Ok. Got it.
“Then I had to drop out because I was already attached to do some more of ‘The Great.’”
Hoult lost out on ‘The Batman,’ ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Mission: Impossible 7′ all in a row. ‘The Batman’ director Matt Reeves selected Robert Pattinson for his Batman/Bruce Wayne, and the two are set to go into production on “The Batman: Part II” later this year. The first film earned $770 million at the worldwide box office.
Two hot roles in vampire movies Hoult will play
Hoult is currently starring alongside Nicolas Cage in ‘Renfield’, and his next project will also be a vampire movie. He’s currently shooting Robert Eggers’ ‘Nosteratu’, which he believes could be a “really special” movie.
“Rob has wanted to make ‘Nosferatu’ since he was eight years old, and he did a play of it as well when he was in high school, so it’s been a passion project of his for a long time,” Hoult said.
“Honestly, I wasn’t looking to go back into the vampire world again, but his style and tone are just so completely the opposite of (Renfield), and I’m such a fan of his work that I’m excited to be in his world and watching him and learning from him.
“I think the film could be really special, so I’m excited for people to see it.”
