Update:

Taylor Swift has won 14 Grammy Awards, including a record four Album of the Year titles, but she will not be adding to her tally this year, despite the commercial success of “The Life of a Showgirl,” her 12th studio album. Rumors that she could still be tempted to attend Sunday’s award ceremony at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles also appear to be wide of the mark.

Why Taylor Swift is not eligible this year

Twelve months ago, Swift’s release of “The Tortured Poets Department” and lead single “Fortnight” led to six Grammy nominations, but the pop superstar ultimately went home empty-handed. We already know that will happen again this year, because she is not up for any awards at all.

That is mainly because Sunday’s ceremony honors the best music released between Aug. 31, 2024, and Aug. 30, 2025. “The Life of a Showgirl,” however, dropped on Oct. 3, which puts Swift outside the eligibility window this time around.

How the Swift Grammy performance rumor started

There had been suggestions that the 36-year-old would attend, potentially with fiancé Travis Kelce, and that a surprise performance could be in the works. That speculation appears to have been built on very shaky ground by music news website HITS, according to Grammy executive producer Ben Winston, who addressed the claim in a conversation with the same outlet.

“The only reason people think Taylor might be performing or coming is because HITS decided to print it this week and put it in their HITS List, and it was picked up globally. But HITS just totally made that up,” Winston said.

He then joked, “And now I am getting asked about it by you, as if it’s a real thing, when it was made up in your office! That really is a full-circle rumor!”

Swifites still holding out hope

Hopeful fans will, of course, be quick to point out that Winston did not explicitly deny Swift would be making an appearance of some kind in Los Angeles. Still, the signs are not exactly encouraging.
