Update:

Viewers of The Summer I Turned Pretty can now watch the finale to season three: episode 11, entitled “At Last”, dropped on Amazon Prime Video in the early hours of today, Wednesday September 17.

And it appears TSITP’s latest episode will be the closing instalment in Isabel “Belly” Conklin’s love story.

“The final chapter”

A romantic, coming-of-age drama that debuted in July 2022, TSITP stars Lola Tung as Belly, a young woman caught in a love triangle with two brothers: Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher, played by Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno, respectively.

Based on Jenny Han’s trilogy of bestselling novels, TSITP has proved a runaway success, dominating the Prime Video charts. Indeed, Amazon says season three amassed 25 million viewers worldwide in the first seven days after its release in mid-July.

But despite the series’ popularity, it seems it won’t be coming back for a fourth season.

Prime Video has billed the current season as “the final chapter”, while Han - who is the show runner, having adapted her trio of novels to create the first three seasons - appears adamant that she won’t be extending the TSITP story for a further run of episodes.

“I have to be true to myself”

“To be able to say when, to be able to call it, is rare when something is doing well and making people money,” Han told an interview with the Los Angeles Times this week. “But I have to be true to myself and what I think is best for the story.”

However, the author isn’t ruling out the possibility of dipping back into the TSITP world for a spin-off. “I’m definitely open to doing more stories in the universe‚" she said.

“It’s just that I want to figure out what the story is that I feel so compelled to tell it that I’m willing to spend the next few years throwing my whole body into it.”

In a statement released after TSITP’s third season premiered this summer, Han said the impact her series has made has outstripped her expectations.

“Everything I could have hoped for and more”

“Seeing how The Summer I Turned Pretty has resonated with millions - how the story has sparked so many fan conversations, sent the books back on the bestseller lists, and inspired so many viewers’ reactions across social media - it’s everything I could have hoped for and more,” she said, per Deadline.
