NFL star Travis Kelce has been handed an invite to the grand opening of Garth Brooks’ Friends in Low Places Bar and Honky Tonk in Nashville after his rendition of the classic 1990 hit of the same name during the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade.

Brooks “blown away” by Kelce’s “Friends in Low Places”

A (seemingly) not entirely sober Kelce sang a portion of the song during the ill-fated parade in Kansas City, shortly before two shooters opened fire, killing one reveller and injuring more than 20 others. Both the Chiefs tight end and girlfriend Taylor Swift have reportedly donated $100,000 to help the victims and their families in the aftermath of the incident.

Brooks revealed on the latest episode of his Inside Studio G live show on Facebook that he had been impressed by Kelce’s “dulcet” tones, and invited the Chiefs player to perform “Friends in Low Places” at the Nashville grand opening on 7 March.

“Did you guys see Travis Kelce’s version of ‘Friends in Low Places?’ Did you see him sing this? I loved it, I thought it was fantastic. It blew me away because I’m sitting there watching it as it’s going down, right. I never expected that.”

Will Kelce choose Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour or Garth Brooks’ grand opening?

Brooks said he and wife hadn’t planned to attend the opening of the bar, which is located at 411 Broadway in Nashville and has four floors, with several bars and dance floors. However, he indicated they would change their plans - and send someone to pick Kelce up - if the three-time Super Bowl winner wants to take to the stage.

“Big man, I’m just telling you this. I will be at grand opening if you’re there. I’ll send a plane if you want another shot at the title. If you want to come sing that, I’ll send a plane.”

It’s not clear whether Kelce will take up Brooks’ offer, although Swift’s Eras Tour schedule is likely to dictate his own over the next few months.

On Wednesday, the football star travelled to Australia ahead of the “Shake It Off” singer’s first show in Sydney, which is on Friday (23 February). After four nights in Australia’s most populous city, Swift will next perform in Singapore between 2 and 9 March, straddling the grand opening of Brooks’ Nashville bar.
