You won’t believe what Jennifer Garner ate on the set of ’13 Going on 30′ - and how many times she had to do it
Hollywood star Garner had one ‘shell’ of an anecdote to share when she appeared on Food Network’s ‘Be My Guest with Ina Garten’.

The makers of the 2004 romantic comedy 13 Going on 30 didn’t skimp on shrimp - as the film’s star, Jennifer Garner, found out the hard way.
In an interview on the Food Network television show Be My Guest with Ina Garten, Garner recalled a particularly challenging scene in which she ended up having to eat the shellfish on an industrial scale.
“I was like, ‘I’m going to sit down for a minute’”
During Garner’s April 2024 appearance on Be My Guest, Garten asked the Hollywood star: “Is there any time on film that you had to eat something over and over again, when you have to do take after take?”
“Yes!” Garner replied. “That happened so much in the film 13 Going on 30. There’s this one shot where I’m entering a party and it’s really long - it’s done in one take.
“There are no cuts in it, so we had to film it the whole way without having any mistakes.”
“And in every single take, I took a shrimp and ate the whole thing. We did 22 takes. [I had to eat] 22 whole shrimp.
“I’ll never forget it! I was like, ‘I’m going to sit down for a minute.’”
What is 13 Going on 30 about?
In 13 Going on 30, Garner starred as the adult version of Jenna Rink, an unpopular schoolgirl who, on her birthday in 1987, wishes to be “thirty and flirty and thriving”.
“I just want to be grown up,” says the teenaged Jenna, who is played by Christa B. Allen.
When Jenna wakes up the next day, she is shocked to discover that her wish has come true.
She has time-travelled forward to 2004, where she is a 30-year-old fashion editor who lives in a swanky New York apartment, together with a handsome boyfriend who greets her with the line: “Hey, sweet bottom!”
