Update:

Lego is preparing to release one of its biggest ever sets - and it isn’t cheap. Next month, the Danish construction-toy manufacturer is to begin sales of a Star Wars Death Star set priced at $999.99. The near-four-figure retail price is the highest ever for a Lego toy, according to multiple reports.

What to know about the Death Star Lego set

A cross-section recreation of the Death Star, a space station that features in several instalments of the Star Wars sci-fi film franchise, the new Lego set features over 9,000 pieces. It comes with 38 Lego Star Wars figures, depicting characters such as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine.

“From Star Wars: A New Hope to Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, this collectible set recreates some of the most legendary moments in cinematic history,” Lego said in a statement this week.

“Fans can build and explore detailed brick recreations of the trash compactor, Emperor Palpatine’s throne room, Princess Leia’s cell, the tractor beam control unit, the Imperial shuttle hangar, and much more. With a compact foundation and layered vertical structure, this model delivers depth and complexity while remaining impressively displayable.”

Measuring 28 inches in height, 32 inches in width and 11 inches in depth, the Death Star set is the latest product to come out of a long-running collaboration between Lego and Lucasfilm, the production company founded by Star Wars creator George Lucas. The first Star Wars-themed Lego set was released back in 1999.

Is the Death Star the biggest ever Lego set?

While the Death Star is the largest Star Wars product made so far by Lego, it is not the company’s biggest set overall. Lego’s Art World Map has the most pieces (over 11,000), while the Lego Eiffel Tower is the tallest (at 58.5 inches) and the Lego Titanic is the widest (at 53 inches).

When does the Lego Death Star set go on sale?

Lego says the set is due to go on general sale from Saturday October 4, 2025. Members of the Lego Insiders loyalty scheme will get early access to the product, beginning on Wednesday, October 1.

Lego profits stacking up

Lego’s announcement of the Death Star set’s forthcoming release comes a month after the manufacturer announced record revenue. At the start of August, Lego said its income had grown to 34.6 billion Danish kroner ($5.4 billion) in the first half of 2025, with profits up by 10% to nine billion kroner ($1.4 billion).

“The results reflect the enduring dedication and passion of our more than 31,000 colleagues around the world who have stayed focused on reaching more children with inspiring Lego play experiences,” said Lego’s CEO, Niels B. Christiansen.

Lego’s stellar financial figures also appear, in no small part, to be down to its range of products aimed at adults - such as the Death Star, Eiffel Tower and Titanic sets, which are all listed as items intended for ages 18 and above. Indeed, the Wall Street Journal’s Trefor Moss wrote recently: “$850 Millennium Falcons and $680 Titanics: Grown-ups are now a gold mine for Lego.”
