With the arrival of October, millions of beneficiaries await their Social Security payment. Find out who will receive $1,800 dollars on October 11.
In August 2023, the average Social Security payment made to retired workers was $1,840. This month, as can be expected, another round of payments to the more than sixty million beneficiaries will be made. While not all will receive $1,800, and based on data from 2022, the median payment amount was $1,590. This means that fifty percent of beneficiaries saw checks greater than this figure, and the others received checks lower than this number. The ten percent of beneficiaries with the lowest payment amounts around $766, while the highest ten percent, saw a monthly check totaling $2,535.
Based on the information available on the distribution of payments, less than half of beneficiaries will receive a check worth $1,800 or more.
When are the checks distributed?
The date during which a person receives their payment from the Social Security Administration depends on their date of birth, and the amount they are paid is determined by the number of years they spent in the workforce and the income generated during that period. For workers who retired before May 1997, checks are always distributed on the first of the month (except when the first falls on a holiday or weekend).
- Those born between the 1st and the 11th receive payments on the second Wednesday of the month;
- those born between the 11th and the 20th recieve payments on the third Wednesday; and
- those born between the 20th to the 31st recieve payments on the fourth Wednesday.
On 11 October, those born between the 1st and 11th will receive their payment.

As for the rest of the payments, this is the calendar for the remainder of the October:
- October 18: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 11th and the 20th
- October 25: Beneficiaries with a date of birth between 21 and 31
It is worth mentioning that, in October, SSI beneficiaries received their payment for October on Friday, September 29, because the first day of the month fell on Sunday.
