The Social Security Administration (SSA) issues millions of monthly payments to beneficiaries of its programs. For the most part, recipients are retired workers, although there are certain individuals with disabilities who can also receive payments through Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).

In most cases, the distribution of payments is linked to the recipient’s date of birth. Those who were born between the 1st and 10th of each month receive their payments on the second Wednesday of the month. Beneficiaries with a date of birth between the 11th and 20th receive their checks on the third Wednesday, and those from the 21st to the 31st receive their checks on the last Wednesday of the month.

The only people who do not fall under this payment schedule are workers who requested their retirement before May 1997 and SSI beneficiaries. They receive their checks on the the first day of the month, regardless of their date of birth.

If a beneficiary receives both Social Security and SSI payments, the SSA will prioritize sending SSI on the first day of the month, while Social Security will be issued on the third day of the month. The distribution schedule may also be altered if the payment day falls on a weekend or holiday.

$1,900 Social Security payment: These beneficiaries will receive an early check

Some Social Security beneficiaries will receive an early check on Tuesday, June 18. These are recipients with a date of birth between the 11th and the 20th. The payment is brought forward one day given that Wednesday, June 19, is a national holiday celebrating Juneteenth Day.

After this payment, only one more set of checks will be sent for the month of June. These payments will be sent next Wednesday, June 26, for beneficiaries born between the 21st and 31st.

How much will the check be? Social Security payment amounts

The exact amount varies depending on the situation of each beneficiary. To establish the amounts, the SSA considers various factors. In the case of retired workers, work history, salaries received and taxes paid to Social Security during their working life are taken into account.

With this information, the amount of primary insurance is calculated. The figure is subsequently adjusted depending on the retirement age of the beneficiary. As a rule, those who take the longest to retire are the ones who receive the largest payments.

While the amount differs depending on the beneficiary, SSA estimates set the average payment for a retired worker in 2024 at $1,907 and $3,303 for couples filing jointly. The average payment for SSI beneficiaries is $943 for individuals and $1,415 for couples.
