$1,900 Social Security payments: Exact mailing dates in October 2024
The Social Security Administration is preparing Social Security and Supplemental Security Income checks for October. Here are the payment dates.
The Social Security Administration sends monthly payments to millions of people, including retired workers, survivors, and beneficiaries of Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Payments are sent out on different dates during the month according to the schedule established by the agency. SSI payments are sent out on the first day of each month. If the first day of the month falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday, the payment is advanced to the first business day before that.
On the third day of each month, the government agency sends money to people who began receiving payments before May 1997. If the third day falls on a weekend or holiday, payments are also sent early.
The rest of the payments are sent on Wednesdays, depending on the beneficiaries' date of birth. If Wednesday is a holiday, payments are also sent in advance.

The importance of the month of October to Social Security payments
In October, the Social Security Administration calculates the cost-of-living adjustment, which determines whether the following year’s payments will increase or not. The COLA is calculated based on inflation so as not to affect the purchasing power of beneficiaries.
The calculation takes into account data from the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers for the third quarter of the current year (July, August and September). They are then compared with data from the same period of the previous year.
The difference between the two figures is the percentage by which Social Security payments will increase next year. For example, for 2024, the COLA was 3.2%. The official 2025 COLA will be announced in October, tentatively on the 10th.
