Key midterm races in New York

Incumbent Democrat Kathy Hochul will be up against Republican Lee Zeldin. New York is a staunchly Democrat state with the last winner, Andrew Cuomo, winning by a 23 percentage point margin back in 2018.

In terms of the House of Representatives, Politico forecasts 18 of the 24 seats will go to Democrats, with two seats, districts 19 and 22, hanging in the balance. District 14, currently held by Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, is firmly expected to stick with the progressive.

One Senate seat is being contested as four-term incumbent Chuck Schumer, Democrat Senate Majority leader, faces a challenge from Republican Joe Pinion, the first black Senate nominee of one of the two parties in New York’s history.
