Favorites for the 2023 Academy Awards

Award season is here, and on 24 January, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce the nominations for the 95th Oscar Awards.

What are Oscar shortlists?

Hundreds of movies are nominated for Academy Awards each year, and to narrow down the best films, the Academy votes to create a shortlist from which the winners will be selected.

Last year, for example, there were fifteen documentaries nominated for Best Documentary Picture, but only five were selected as nominees.
