BOSTON MARATHON
2024 Boston Marathon: Routes and start times according to your BIB number
The prestigious race is in its 128th incarnation with a familiar track but maybe a not so familiar number system.
The Boston Marathon is a legendary test of endurance, drawing runners from across the globe. While the iconic route remains generally constant, your experience on race day hinges on a crucial detail: your BIB number. This seemingly simple identifier holds the key to your starting corral and start time, ensuring an organized and efficient race for all participants.
The 26.2-mile course from Hopkinton to Boylston Street remains the same for every runner, regardless of BIB number. This stretch of road presents its own challenges, from the early miles through Ashland to the infamous Heartbreak Hill at Mile 21. K
BIB Numbers and Corral Assignments
You should have received receive an email containing your prized BIB number – your official ticket to the race. This number serves a dual purpose: identification and corral assignment. Look for a small square box printed on your BIB. This box displays your assigned corral, a designated holding area where runners gather before the start.
Corrals are strategically arranged based on qualifying times. Runners with faster qualifying times are typically placed in earlier corrals, granting them an earlier start on race day. This segregation helps maintain a smooth flow of runners on the course and prevents congestion, particularly in the crucial early miles.
On race day, locate signage directing you to your assigned corral based on your BIB number. Remain within your designated area until instructed otherwise by race officials.
