Day One of the DNC in Chicago was a tribute to President Joe Biden who stepped aside as the party’s 2024 presidential candidate and threw his full support behind Vice President Kamala Harris to be the Democrats’ standard-bearer. Speakers included “everyday Americans” and up-and-coming members of the party as well as prominent members like former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Vice President Harris also made a brief surprise appearance early in the evening to “celebrate our incredible president,” and thank Biden for his “historic leadership” as well as his “lifetime of service to our nation, and all you will continue to do.” President Biden, the star speaker of the night, gave a 45-minute speech to tout his four years in office. He also laid out the work that needs to be done on the road ahead which will be the focus of Tuesday.
