A 65-year-old retiree finds an extra activity: “It generates $1,800 a month, in addition to my pension”
Fabienne has turned driving into her way of life. Her mission is to transport vehicles from point A to point B across Europe.
When a person retires, life can either become more comfortable or present new challenges. This was the case for Fabienne, a French retiree who was sent into retirement at the age of 58.
She decided she was still fully capable of working. At first, she did not know what she wanted to do, and the jobs offered to her were not very appealing. Eventually, she decided to change industries.
Fabienne lives in a small village between Sablé-sur-Sarthe and Angers. She previously worked as a pharmacy technician and has now found an activity that allows her to earn extra income while pursuing her passion for cars. “I have always enjoyed driving and I am fascinated by beautiful cars,” she says, now that she has found a comfortable and engaging job.
“All the jobs offered to me were too far from home, sometimes an hour away, and paid minimum wage. It wasn’t feasible, so I decided to switch careers.” It was her partner, who was already a driver on the Hiflow platform, who introduced her to car transportation.
Hitting the open road to beef up pension payments
Since then, driving has become her livelihood. Her mission is to deliver vehicles from one location to another. In 2025, she completed 180 trips and covered over 23,000 miles across France.
Her daily routine revolves around assignments she selects herself through the platform. She has become a micro-entrepreneur, planning her trips, calculating budgets, and managing her travel independently.
“What I love most is the freedom: I choose my assignments and my schedule.” Her daily drives range from 120 to 240 miles, not including the return trip, which she takes by train or carpooling. “It is possible to make deliveries abroad, in Belgium, Spain, or Italy, but I prefer to stay in France, especially in the Greater West,” she adds. “I try to avoid urban car deliveries.”
Her job is to get the car to its final destination for a client at a scheduled time. “Depending on the month, Hiflow allows me to earn between 800 and 1,500 euros ($950 - $1,800), but you have to consider expenses such as fuel, tolls, and sometimes hotels,” she explains.
According to the platform, the average net income for drivers is around 500 euros ($590) per month for approximately six deliveries. These earnings must be declared, as the status of micro-entrepreneur carries tax obligations.
